Day of German Unity reception
The Lord Dean of Guild was delighted to receive an invitation from The German Ambassador Miguel Berger, Consul General Christiane Hullmann and the Office of the Free State of Bavaria to a reception on 3rd October at the City Chambers.
The event marked the Day of German Unity, which celebrates the re-unification of Germany in 1990. Attendees got to taste a range of German food and were entertained by musicians playing traditional German music. It was greatly enjoyed by all, with many new connections made.
In his speech, Ambassador Berger drew particular attention to the strong links between Germany and Scotland and outlined the many initiatives currently being discussed to strengthen those ties.
The Day of German Unity is celebrated annually as a public holiday in Germany, with a ceremonial act and a citizens festival held in one of the major cities.
The Lord Dean attends many civic events in his role as second citizen of Glasgow. Find out about some highlights of his tenure so far here
