Merchants House Supports Healthy n Happy’s ‘Safe and Savvy’ Project with £3, 576 Grant

The Merchants House of Glasgow is pleased to support Healthy n Happy with a grant of £3,576 towards the delivery of its Safe and Savvy project — an initiative designed to strengthen financial literacy and digital confidence among people experiencing, or at risk of, household poverty in Cambuslang and Rutherglen.

Safe and Savvy aims to provide accessible and relevant financial education within local communities while helping people build the digital confidence needed to stay safe online. The project forms part of Healthy n Happy’s wider programme of community development work, which seeks to mitigate and manage the negative effects of poverty while empowering local people with practical skills and knowledge.

Recognising that financial capability affects every aspect of day-to-day life, the project will focus on helping participants better understand how to manage limited resources, reduce vulnerability to scams and fraud, and improve long-term financial resilience. Through community-based workshops and accessible drop-in sessions, local people will be supported to build confidence in budgeting, online safety and navigating financial challenges safely and effectively.

The funding from Merchants House will also allow Healthy n Happy to build on its successful Energy Redress-funded advice and advocacy work by providing more comprehensive, wrap-around support that addresses the root causes of financial vulnerability. The organisation has identified a growing knowledge gap within the community, alongside increasing incidences of financial exploitation, both of which are having a significant impact on households already affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Speaking about the award, Healthy n Happy said: “We are delighted with this award as this funding will strengthen our organisational capacity, enabling us to expand our preventative, early-intervention work and deepen our impact within the communities we serve in Rutherglen and Cambuslang.”

Healthy n Happy is a charity and community-owned organisation governed by local people, with all of its work directed by local priorities. Its vision is to make Cambuslang and Rutherglen the healthiest and happiest places to live in Scotland.

The organisation provides opportunities for people to actively improve their lives and the places where they live through a wide range of services and activities. These include volunteering opportunities, mental health and stress management support, family support services, healthy living initiatives, social activities, anti-stigma campaigning, community capacity building and local activism.

Through projects such as Safe and Savvy, Healthy n Happy continues to deliver vital support that strengthens communities, builds resilience and helps local people navigate increasingly complex financial and digital challenges.
