Birthday brand unveiled to mark Glasgow’s 850th year

The Lord Dean was delighted to be invited to attend the launch of the new brand to mark Glasgow’s 850th birthday in 2025. The event was held at the new Social Hub in Glasgow.

Throughout 2025 the city will mark its 850th birthday by delivering, with partners, a programme that celebrates and reflects on its recent past, our present and future. Complimenting the popular ‘People Make Glasgow’ look, and based on the idea of badges, the icons used in the brand are synonymous with Glasgow’s history. More symbols will be developed to highlight the wide-ranging achievements of the city and its people, with a special focus on the past fifty years and a strong emphasis on its future ambitions.

Susanne Miller, Chief Executive of Glasgow City Council said: “Marking the city’s 850th birthday is an opportunity that goes beyond celebrations and commemorations. It acknowledges the contributions of generations who have shaped the city, gives a platform to grow a shared sense of belonging and invites people to guide our future.”

As an organisation with a long and established history in the city, everyone at the Merchants House is excited at the prospect of being involved in the celebrations; watch out for plans being announced later in the year. If you’re also participating why not consider us for your event? Our historic venue is situated right in the heart of the city centre, and as a not for profit organisation all proceeds go to our charitable work.
