Govanhill Baths Community Trust – People’s Pantry
People’s Pantry in Govanhill awarded £8,600 to support the wellbeing and improve the nutrition of over 500 households per week
The People’s Pantry is a membership-led shop providing access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food, as well as household essentials. Anyone who lives in the G41/G42 postcode areas can become a member for £6 a year. After joining, members can shop weekly for £4 and fill their baskets with purchases up to the value of £30.
Meli Vasiloudes Bayada, Wellbeing Manager, said “Thank you so very much for this generous grant which will make a big difference to People’s Pantry members. Unlike most Pantries we don’t solely rely on donations from supermarkets but provide additional fruit and vegetables to our members, particularly given our large BAME membership. Funding will support us to buy more of the basics but also additional seasonal vegetables and in particular, more bulk culturally appropriate items such as chapati flour, gram flour and dried legumes. This will alleviate the food insecurity our members experience on a day-to-day basis.”
