Grant of £5,000 will assist Clyde Shopmobility with the purchase of new wheelchairs
Clyde Shopmobility provides an essential service for people with mobility challenges, offering access to mobility scooters and wheelchairs around the Clyde Shopping Centre.
This grant will help them purchase new, lightweight, more comfortable wheelchairs, enhancing the overall user experience. The service plays a key role in reducing social isolation by enabling individuals to shop, meet friends, or attend appointments.
Testimonies from service users highlight how important the service is for daily activities, helping them access the shopping centre and other locations they might otherwise struggle to reach. Margaret Maurage said “The service is a massive help, as I wouldn’t be able to get around the shopping centre without it, to shop or just to meet up with my friends for a coffee”. Margaret Barcley said “I would only make two shops if it wasn’t for the service, without it I wouldn’t make it round the full shopping centre. I also find it easier to take one of the mobility scooters to the health centre too, as there isn’t a bus that passes by.”

A satisfied service user
Operating since 2011, Clyde Shopmobility is a locally run charity that serves residents of West Dunbartonshire and surrounding areas. They offer a variety of services to make it easier for people with mobility challenges to stay connected to their community. Their flexible pick-up and drop-off options, along with the ability to use equipment for health appointments or holidays, make a significant impact on users’ independence.
This grant will undoubtedly enhance the support they can give to those who rely on their service, providing mobility aids that are easier to use and more comfortable.
