MediCinema- Film Fun for Hospital Patients
The Merchants House has awarded a £6,000 grant to MediCinema.
MediCinema enables patients to enjoy a fun cinema experience during long stays in hospital.
Jamie Lynch, Director of Development at MediCinema said “Thank you to The Merchants House for this invaluable support. It has been another difficult year for charities and this grant is a real lifeline. ”
“£6000 will help to provide screenings of the latest movies for free, to over 2000 hospitalised adults. Our MediCinema-goers are patients at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow who may be living in hospital for regular periods of time. Escaping to the world of film with friends while in hospital, increases patients’ ability to cope; in turn reducing isolation, anxiety and stress. Each evening spent in the MediCinema with family or friends is valuable time that really matters – it’s proven to improve recovery times, and an enriched quality of life.”
Reg was a property developer and self-confessed workaholic when he broke his neck and was paralysed from the neck down. When we spoke to Reg, pictured above, he’d been in the Southern General Hospital in Govan for seven months. Reg said:
‘I missed my wife Tracey and work, terribly. I have tried to keep a positive attitude. I have kept trying to adjust to the circumstances but of course, there are times when I don’t feel like the man I once was and that can be a dark place.
‘The MediCinema is now MY form of entertainment. They pump us full of painkillers and the cinema is the highlight of my week. People who have the experience can see light at the end of a dark tunnel. We can experience something which is happening in the outside world and feel in a sense we are not missing out. It’s amazing to have that opportunity.’
