Rutherglen Community Carers awarded £3000 funding
We are delighted to announce funding of £3000 to Rutherglen Community Carers to support their Home Respite Service
The organisation was established in 1994 to address the need for person-centred social support for people with dementia and other mental health/ disabling conditions who are being supported in the community. Support at home (home- based respite) is provided by their highly trained and qualified carers.
Michelle Woods, Project Manager, said “On behalf of all the Carers and Management of Rutherglen Community Carers, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for your grant award of £3000. We rely on fundraising, grants and donations to provide our seasonal activities such as our Halloween and Christmas parties and our annual all day outing for service users and their families. This year we took them to Balloch for the Island Cruise and then to the Tullie Inn for lunch, we were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny day for our outing and everyone had a good day. The generous support of organisations like the Merchants House help us continue in our mission to make it possible for our organisation to exist and to make the community a more inclusive place to live.”
Rutherglen Community Carers aims to support people to live well with their underlying health conditions and to provide respite and stress relief to service users and their families. Their trained Community Carers offer practical and emotional support to both the carer and the cared for, as well as advice on issues relating to Carers. The respite care service allows carers to take some me time to socialise with friends, go shopping, or anything else they wish, safe in the knowledge their loved one is being supported in an appropriate manner.
The organisation offers a range of services, including a 6 week Education Group to provide support and information to those with a recent diagnosis of dementia through a semi structured programme, a Social Group who meet fortnightly and participate in a range of activities, and a weekly Craft Club. All of these programmes are designed to facilitate and encourage social interaction and communication, enabling people with dementia to live as well as possible.
