Welcome to Amy McGale, our new Grants & Events Officer!

We’re thrilled to introduce Amy McGale, the newest member of our staff team here at the Merchants House. With a background in events management, Amy has been enjoying finding out about the variety of work we do. We caught up with her to learn more about her experiences so far:

What has been the most surprising aspect of working at the Merchants House so far?

“What has surprised me most about working at the Merchants House is the variety of ways it serves Glasgow. While I knew the House was a not- for-profit space, I didn’t fully appreciate the extent of the charitable work that is involved until I joined. The impact that we have on the community is much broader than I had expected.”

What’s one thing you’ve learned about the Merchants House that you didn’t know before you started?

“One thing I’ve learned about the Merchants House is the depth of the history and the stories that it holds. Every room within the House has its own story to tell. It’s incredible to think about how much history is embedded in the walls, and how it continues to be such a big part of Glasgow’s civic life today.”

Can you share a moment or experience at the Merchants House that has stood out to you so far?

“Definitely the Enlightenment show. The number of people who have come through our doors to experience the immersive light show has been amazing. What really stood out to me was how the building itself becomes part of the magic of the event. It’s also been fantastic to see the positive feedback on social media—it makes me proud to be a part of the Merchants House team.”

What are you finding most rewarding about your role at the Merchants House?

“The most rewarding part of my role is contacting the charities to let them know their grant has been approved. Hearing how far the funding will go and how many individuals within their service will benefit from it is truly fulfilling. Knowing that our work directly helps others in such a meaningful way is a great motivator.”

Is there any particular project or initiative within the Merchants House that has caught your attention or made an impact on you?

“A project that really stood out to me was when a client used our event space to host an Indoor Highland Games. This was shortly after I had started, and it left a positive impact on me. It showed me that the Merchants House is not just a venue for traditional events but can accommodate a wide variety of occasions. It was a great example of the versatility of our space.”

We’re excited to have Amy on board and look forward to seeing all the great work she’ll continue to do at the Merchants House!
