We were delighted that two members of the Merchants House team, Events Manager Nancy Braid and Grants & Events Officer Amy McGale, were invited to attend this year’s Royal Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse during Royal Week.

Each year, Royal Week (also known as Holyrood Week) sees the Monarch spend time in Scotland, celebrating Scottish culture, achievement and community. As part of the week’s events, thousands of guests are welcomed to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in recognition of their contributions to communities across Scotland. This year’s Garden Party welcomed approximately 8,000 guests.

Following an invitation from the Royal Household, and with the approval of the Lord Dean of Guild, Nancy and Amy represented the Merchants House at the special event. They spent the afternoon strolling through the beautiful palace gardens, enjoying performances from the military bands and catching glimpses of Their Majesties The King and Queen, alongside The Duke of Edinburgh and The Princess Royal.

Guests were treated to a wonderful afternoon tea, and it was also an opportunity to meet fellow guests, including Merchants House Directors Grant Barclay and Gordon Lennox, members Gayle Adnyana and Ian McCarthy, and Glasgow’s Lord Provost, Jacqueline McLaren.

Reflecting on the day, Nancy Braid said:

“It was a real honour to represent the Merchants House of Glasgow at the Royal Garden Party. It was such a lovely afternoon, from wandering through the beautiful gardens and listening to the bands to meeting so many familiar faces. Despite the crowds, the weather stayed mostly dry, and it was a memorable experience that I’ll always treasure.”
