Day Trips That Build Connections: Merchants House Supports Alive & Kicking

The Merchants House of Glasgow has awarded £1,960 to Alive & Kicking, a charity supporting older adults and people with physical disabilities across north-east Glasgow.

The funding will help provide a programme of low-cost day trips for local residents, particularly active older adults and those experiencing social isolation. For many participants, barriers such as limited mobility, financial pressures, or a lack of social opportunities can make it difficult to stay connected to their community.

These trips offer more than just a day out. They provide opportunities to build friendships, maintain independence, and enjoy meaningful experiences in a safe and welcoming environment. By keeping costs affordable, Alive & Kicking ensures that those who would benefit most can take part, helping to reduce isolation while improving confidence and wellbeing.

A representative from Alive & Kicking said:

“The Merchants House grant will help us continue our core activities and support the people who rely on them. The funding makes a real difference by reducing isolation, improving wellbeing, and ensuring our activities remain accessible in a welcoming and supportive environment.”

About Alive & Kicking

Founded in 1988 as The Springburn Elderly & Disabled Forum, Alive & Kicking has spent almost four decades supporting older and disabled residents across the Greater Springburn area and wider north-east Glasgow.

Established by local community activists, the organisation was created to provide a welcoming centre where older people and adults with physical disabilities could come together, access support, and take part in community life. Over the years, Alive & Kicking has developed a diverse range of social, recreational, and cultural activities designed to tackle loneliness and improve quality of life.

From supported holidays and day trips to live performances, events, and community activities, the charity continues to help people stay active, connected, and engaged within their local community.
