Govan HELP awarded £15,000 by The Merchants House

The Govan Home and Education Link Project (Govan HELP) received a total of £15,000 in grant awards from The Merchants House in 2021.

The initial £5,000 award was used to supply food for the Govan Pantry, a subsidised community shop which helps people living in the G51 and G52 postcodes to shop smarter and budget better. It provides access to food and other essential items at a reduced cost. Members pay £2.50 per week to access the Pantry and can select 10 items for a range of food and necessities, helping families to make a saving of approximately £15 per shop.

A further £10,000 grant was distributed by Govan HELP in the form of £100 cash grants. This provided a dignified approach to supporting families as it enabled them to identify and prioritise their own individual family needs and use the money to best suit their own circumstances. Families reported spending the money on heating and electricity bills, a travel pass for getting to school, warm winter clothing for their children and second hand beds.
