Wing Hong Centre Grant

The Wing Hong Centre combats isolation and loneliness amongst the elderly Chinese community in Glasgow.

Founded in 1989 the Wing Hong Elderly Group (also known as the Wing Hong Centre) is a charitable organisation which aims to enhance the quality of life for older people in the local Chinese community.

Based in the Garnethill area of Glasgow, the centre offers a broad range of activities and services including a lunch club, exercise classes, day trips, a wellbeing clinic, counselling and interpreter services, bereavement support plus advice with applications for housing and welfare benefits. The Merchants House was delighted to award a grant of £2,500 to support their charitable work.

Jaime Lee, Development Officer at the centre said

“It is such a delight and an honour for Wing Hong to receive a grant from The Merchants House of Glasgow. This grant will allow us to reduce isolation and loneliness as well as reducing health inequalities within the social care system. With better support, resources and opportunities this will have a positive impact on the well-being of the Chinese elderly community of Glasgow.”
